A Prelude of Prayer

About a year ago, in one of the adoption packets we sent for contained a DVD detailing orphans across the world, and how we could help, even if we did not adopt. Our then 4 year old daughter thoughtfully watched that DVD. It made an indelible mark upon her heart. She was appalled and heart broken for these kids all over the world that did not have parents. It seemed as if she really couldn't fathom the thought of not having parents. From then on, she prayed nearly every night for the kids all over the world that “don’t have Mommies and Daddies”. She prayed that Jesus would keep them safe, and give them all mommies and daddies. She asked if we could send her outgrown clothes to orphanages. It was apparent that she had a tender heart for these kids. I don’t recall her ever asking when we were going to adopt, but perhaps it was because if she asked, she knew we’d say “not now”, or have some other excuse handy. We did, however pray for the child, that could one day be ours, that he/she would be protected, comforted and loved until it was time for him/her to come home. It was a fervent prayer, though, not a consistent, daily prayer. We left it as when the Lord had the child for us, it would be the right time. It was nice know it was a matter of when and not if.
